Hungarian Jam-Filled Buchteln

Ingredients:

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 7 g dry yeast
  • 250 ml warm milk
  • 80 g sugar
  • 80 g melted butter
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 200 g apricot jam (or plum jam)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions:

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk with a little sugar and let sit for 5–10 minutes.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Add yeast mixture, egg yolks, melted butter, and vanilla.
  4. Knead into a soft dough and let rise for 1 hour.
  5. Divide dough into equal pieces.
  6. Flatten each piece and place 1 tsp jam in the center.
  7. Seal tightly and shape into balls.
  8. Place side by side in a greased baking dish.
  9. Brush with melted butter and let rise for 20 minutes.
  10. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes until golden.
  11. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
