Hungarian Cabbage Noodles (Káposztás Tészta)

Ingredients:

  • 300 g egg noodles
  • 1 small cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 tbsp oil or lard
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Cook the egg noodles in salted boiling water until tender. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat oil or lard in a large pan.
  3. Add onion and cook until soft.
  4. Add shredded cabbage and sprinkle with sugar.
  5. Cook slowly for 20–25 minutes, stirring often, until the cabbage becomes golden brown and caramelized.
  6. Season with salt and plenty of black pepper.
  7. Add the cooked noodles and toss everything together.
  8. Cook for another 2–3 minutes so the flavors combine.
